The day President Kennedy was killed, I was in a class that was just settling after the bell rang to begin the hour. A student named Bill had a transistor radio on in the classroom. The teacher was about to reprimand him for it, when Bill announced that he thought he'd just heard that the President was shot. Shortly thereafter, the news came over the loudspeaker, and students were released from classes. On my way down the north stairs of the building, I saw a military officer (there that day on behalf of the ROTC), bent over the railing crying helplessly.
